History
StumPro began as a simple family project that grew into a trusted local business. In 2012, Michael’s father, Joel Frederick, purchased a stump grinder to clear stumps from their wooded property in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Soon after, friends from their church—many of whom worked in the tree business—began asking if the Fredericks could help with stump grinding created from their jobs. Michael and his brother, Steven, took on the work during their high school years, gaining hands-on experience and a growing appreciation for the trade.
In 2018, when Michael was asked how he planned to support his future family, he proposed stump grinding as a career. What started as a quick answer turned into a calling. With dedication, hard work, and a commitment to honesty, timeliness, and professionalism, Michael turned that vision into StumPro LLC.
Since its founding, StumPro has grown steadily, serving homeowners and businesses across Greenville and the Upstate. Today, StumPro is more than just a stump grinding company—it’s a family-owned business built on faith, integrity, and service. From small backyard jobs to large commercial projects, we treat every property with the same care and respect as if it were our own.

Michael
Michael grew up in Greenville SC. He started Stumpro in 2019 as a way to put himself through school and to support his family. He is still in school, at Bob Jones University, working on a PhD degree in Systematic Theology. His family continues to grow. He currently has three children—Kenny, Carson, and Margaret. When he’s not working on his company or reading, he’s probably on an adventure with his family.
Worker
Daniel
Daniel grew up in New Holland, PA, son of an organic produce farmer. Daniel moved from working with his father on the farm to working for an agricultural machinery manufacturer. After nine years learning how to build equipment, Daniel moved to Greenville to join a local church here in the upstate and to attend Bob Jones University. He is still working on a graduate degree at the University, while using Stumpro to pay his way. Daniel’s work interests are divided between Stumpro and his flourishing produce garden.

Joel
Joel, the one responsible for the existence of Stumpro, taught each of his eight children diligence in their work. After earning an accounting degree from Bob Jones University in the late 80’s, he worked as an accountant and controller for 39 years. Always wishing for a full quiver (unbenounced to his wife), he gave his children the opportunity to learn how to work with their hands on their 8.5 acres property in Simpsonville, which morphed into a farm when the kids were growing up. He shows by example how to work with diligence by his punctuality, his perseverance, and his non-complaining spirit. When not grinding stumps, you might find Joel maintaining his homestead, or preoccupying one of his 12 grandchildren.
Worker
Kevin
Kevin, the second-to-youngest of the Frederick clan, is the mechanical genius. While he only works part-time, his role at Stumpro is greatly appreciated. Kevin earned a Tool and Dye associates degree from Greenville Tech, which Stumpro avails itself of. His skill in welding and fabrication is used to fix broken parts and to develop new equipment features. There’s not much he can’t fix or build once he sets his mind to it. You might also find him out in the field grinding stumps if times are busy. He also enjoys volunteering at his local church.
